AirAsia CEO sees profit even if oil hits US$200

The spiralling price of oil is beyond any airline's control and fuel hedging can only be a "temporary pain relief" at best, he said.Fernandes said the key to AirAsia's sustainability, regardless of crude oil prices, is to launch more high demand routes that will keep sales growing, coupled with a strong marketing skill that will ensure those seats are filled.

"We started KL-Haikou. No one had ever done it, and now we are full, with 92 per cent load factor. We are making good profit from that route. If we didn't do that route, we'd have less profit to cover the price of oil," Fernandes added.

He is also not worried about a potential economic slowdown, or that rising food prices may force consumers to keep their money for other things more essential than travel. Instead, he believes people may go for holiday even more as they seek refuge from the reality of the life.

"There are two things that will benefit from an economic slowdown - the movie industry and travel. Because what do you want to do if the economy slows? You want to go out and have some fun! So you'll lose yourselves in it," he said. Taken from Btimes

Matjem: Terer mamat Tony ni......kat US yelah movie kat Malaysia tak comply langsung....Travel maybe lah...yelah ngko boleh le buat profit semua additional charge tu pegi balik kat consumer....

Second Finance Minister Tan Sri Nor Mohamed Yakcop said the directive for a review was given by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Abdullah Ahmad Badawi in response to a request by transport companies.

"The prime minister has directed the relevant ministry to look into increasing the fleet card quota for transport companies," he said.

Currently, only 30 per cent of vehicles owned by transport companies are entitled to the fuel subsidy, prompting them to raise fares. Taken from NST

Malay woman buried as a Buddhist

KANGAR: A Malay woman who died in Kampung Guar Musang on June 12 was buried in the village according to Buddhist rites.

This followed the Perlis Religious Affairs Department’s decision that the woman, Selimah Mat, 78, was no longer a Muslim at the time of her death although her identity card stated her religion as Islam.

Perlis Syariah High Court judge Zaini Abd Rahim confirmed yesterday that the woman did not profess the Islamic faith and could be buried according to Buddhist rites.

Rokiah said her sister admitted to having married a Buddhist.
“I asked her to return to Islam but she remained non-committal,” she said.

Rokiah also claimed to have seen Selimah entering the Buddhist temple in the village to engage in religious activities like other Buddhists in the village.Taken from Thestar
